The new Fire tablets' headline feature is its price. Color options are black, magenta, blue, and tangerine. The larger Fire HD 10 comes in 16 or 32GB variants, starting at $229.99. The smaller Fire HD 8 will be available with 8 or 16GB of internal storage from $149.99. With a 5MP rear camera the new Amazon tablets are not ideal capture devices but a microSD support and claimed 8 hours of battery life should make them a viable option for image presentation or editing.

There are stereo speakers with Dolby Audio for a good video consumption experience and an HD front camera. The Fire HD's housing is 7.7mm thin and Amazon claims twice as durable as Apple's iPad Air 2. Amazon's new Fire OS 5 'Bellini' is based on Android Lollipop and powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz chipset. It comes with 8 or 10.1-inch screens that both offer a 1280 x 800 resolution.

The Fire HD is the most powerful model of the three, making it the best option for image viewing or editing. Not only are the new models lighter and thinner than the previous generation but with their introduction the Kindle name was also dropped from the Amazon tablet lineup. Amazon* has today updated its Fire tablet line and announced three new models, the Fire HD, Fire and Fire Kids.
